Challenging the sea - A glimpse of Harrysfarm across the polders of Flevoland

Posted by Gabriele Dell'Orto on May 22, 2026

Dutch agriculture is often associated with cutting-edge technology.
But before it, there was a land reclaimed from the sea. My latest article for “Il Contoterzista” covers the story of Harrysfarm in Flevoland, one of the youngest agricultural regions in Europe, where the Schreuder family has been farming since the very first years of the polder development in the 1960s. Harry Schreuder told me how he combines crop rotations with data-driven decisions, drones, and shared machinery to drop ownership costs. An interesting example of pragmatic and forward-thinking agriculture.

“Il Contoterzista” is the official magazine of the Italian contractors’ body CAI Agromec.

I acknowledge Harry for his kindness and availability.
